dgCharge Virtual Terminal Tutorial

This tutorial is designed to give a brief introduction to the dgCharge Virtual Terminal. This interface allows you to start manually processing credit card transactions immediately without any programming.

After installing dgCharge, go to the 'Start' menu and select 'Programs/DevGuru/dgCharge/Admin Tools' to launch the interface. You will see this page appear in a browser window:

As you can see, this is the main page where you can select the merchant that you want to process a transaction for, add or remove merchants and view merchant details. If you have just installed dgCharge there will be no entries in the merchants list. To add a merchant simply click on the 'Add' button and you will see the following screen:

Fill in the Merchant Name, Terminal Number and Bank Number and select the type of settlement for this merchant and then click the 'Add Merchant' button. You will then be returned to the main screen where you will now see your newly added merchant in the merchant list.

To view the details of all available merchants, return to the Main Menu and click on the 'Details' button. You will be presented with the display below:

To process a transaction, return to the Main Menu and click on the name of the required merchant to bring up the Merchant menu:

For Sale, PreAuthorization and Credit transactions, you will be taken to a page containing a form where you enter the transaction details. All three of these options have very similar forms. The form for a Sale transaction is shown below:

The items in red are all required fields and you will not be able to process the transaction without supplying this information. When you have filled in the required information simply click the 'Process Sale' button (or 'Process PreAuth' or 'Process Credit'). Once the transaction has been processed by dgCharge you will see a message that indicates if it was successful. If not, an appropriate explanation will be displayed. The example below shows the message for an invalid card number entered while attempting a Sale transaction:

The other options on the main menu allow you to perform Void and Force transactions, process sales with a card reader, view and add terminal IDs for each merchant and process manual settlements (Professional Edition only). Details of these other procedures can be found in the user guide.

As you can see, the dgCharge Virtual Terminal makes it easy to start processing credit card transactions immediately for those that don't want or need integration with new or existing applications.
